Beirut -Alfa, the first Lebanese mobile operator managed by Orascom Telecom, has donated an amount of 16,000 USD to the SOS Children Villages Lebanon. The initiative comes as part of the "Alfa 4-life" Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Program, which in its fifth year, continues to support social associations and institutions in Lebanon in achieving their humanitarian missions.
The contribution follows the musical concert organized as part of "Alfa 4-Life" in December 2010 for children of the SOS, who sang after months of rehearsals, best Christmas songs and corals.
Alfa Chairman & CEO, Mr Marwan Hayek assured, while handing over the donation check to Mrs Afifa Arsanios- President of SOS Children Villages Lebanon, that "amid the wide-scale technological developments that Alfa is undertaking as it upgrades its networks to 3.5G, Alfa's commitment to support communities in Lebanon and children in communications needs has not waned, especially that children are the most vulnerable parts of our society."
Mr Hayek added: "In fact, our commitment to take meaningful action to give back to the community is deeply rooted in our business, and that is why again this year we have launched the fundraising campaign in favour of the SOS Children Villages with as much enthusiasm and passion as the previous years."
To raise the amount of contributions for the fundraising campaign, Alfa has launched an SMS campaign, calling its subscribers for donations via SMS to the short code 1004.
It's worth mentioning that "Orascom Telecom Holding" (OTH) is the international leading mobile operator in the Middle East, Africa and South Asia and counts over 104 million subscribers.
