For the first time in Iraq

Iraq, Sulaimanya, 2013: In yet another pioneering achievement, Asiacell— a leading provider of quality mobile telecommunications services in Iraq, with over10 million subscribers — received the “mWomen” Award during the 2013 GSMA Global Mobile Awards for its innovative Almas Line.

The mWomen Award aims to highlight the most innovative product or service specifically designed to meet the needs of female consumers in emerging markets, particularly women living on less than $2 per day. The award seeks to stimulate mobile operators, manufactures and the broader mobile ecosystem to create unique solutions that help to narrow the mobile phone gender gap.

Tailored to meet the needs of various female demographics within the Iraqi market, Asiacell’s Almas Line features a multitude of special offers and services, including unprecedented low calling rates and special discounts on unique content services that cater to women of various age groups and backgrounds.

“This remarkable achievement comes to showcase the unique role played by Asiacell in empowering Iraqi women by offering them integrated mobile services that not only meet their individual needs but are also offered at highly affordable prices,” commented Asiacell Chairman, Faruk Mustafa Rasool .

And supported his speech; “What sets the Almas Line apart, aside from its low price point and unique services, is its unparalleled customizability, which allows women to exercise their individuality by personalizing our services to match their distinct characters and preferences.”

“The mWomen Award is reserved for operators that demonstrate pro-activity and tangible progress in terms of identifying the opportunity around the women’s segment in emerging markets,” said Michael O’Hara, Chief Marketing Officer at GSMA. “The female-centric elements of Asiacell’s Almas Line, combined with its substantially reduced tariffs and the nationwide coverage of Asiacell’s network, make it a powerful example of how telecommunication technologies can be utilized to empower women in underprivileged and developing communities. It represents a trend we would like to see proliferate throughout similar markets worldwide.”

The award is part of GSMA’s“mWomen Program” — an unprecedented global public-private partnership between the worldwide mobile industry and the international development community — which seeks to accelerate mobile penetration within female demographics in developing communities and to provide life-changing services for women in those communities.
